Comment from Kristen Koetje:

I've never had the desire to be a school administrator. Not for one second. I've always known that my place is in front of a classroom with chalk in my hand. (OK, times have changed, and there are no more chalkboards. Make it an erasable marker-you pick the color.) Even though I'm a confessed non-administrator type, I am blessed to live with one each day, my husband. He promotes school spirit, treats his school like family, he is professional, he has an amazing secretary that helps him achieve the vision for the school, his teachers work very hard to do what’s best for kids, he leads his teachers to use data to drive instruction, and he seeks the wisdom of his Lord and Savior each day. 💕 #bragging #husband #principal #allendale #karahanesphotography #teachersofinstagram #teachersofinstagram #teacher #iteachtoo #iteach3rd #iteachthird

Listening to laughter is so contagious to me and it's one of my favorite things to do with my clients. I will do anything to make someone laugh. If only you could see me on the other side of this lens 🙈. This is what turns clients in to friends. Today I'm sharing the Moseler family with you. I've been taking their photos since their kids were little and they are sure growing up fast. What is your favorite thing to see in a family session?

Happy Saturday!!! This is usually where I tell you something amazing but instead I'm going to just leave you with a beautiful photo of the sweet Samantha Impens while I sip more coffee and binge watch tv and do nothing at all. Julie Andrews may have forgotten one thing, some of my favorite things are the crinkling sounds of leaves in the fall. Don't you just love the smell of this time of year. The weather hasn't quite made up it's mind yet but today was the first day that I felt fall had finally come. What are some of your favorite parts of fall? 6 years ago I began mentoring teen girls. This was something I really had to train myself in. 7th grade was one of the worst times for me. I'm glad that someone nudged me to do it and I haven't questioned my decision since. 🎓 . . I was her mentor through our church and she and I just clicked. After all these years Ceirra has grown in to the the most beautiful of young women. When talking with her months ago she had completely different plans. The beauty in this is that there is so much space for finding who you want to be. Currently Ceirra plans to go to college and study Humanistic Physcology. She is passionate about spreading positivity – “People can be cruel, we need more people spreading “Good Vibes” instead of hurt”. . . I can’t wait to see where her journey takes her. What was or is your plan after high school. What are you doing now? Check out more photos from this session in my blog. Link in the bio.

Hey there! Kara here. It's easy to show you beautiful photos that I see all around me but today I'm showing the girl on the other side of the lens. I'm not perfect. The old me would have been scared to share a photo of me without cropping this size 14 waist. But I'm showing up today imperfect and untouched. It's crazy how society makes us feel unworthy and comfortable to be ourselves. When looking at this photo I thought to, "Oh girl, your curves are making a statement" but when I step back, I think of the journey and how they came to be. I think about how I had the honor to carry two beautiful babies when others long to do that very thing. I'm working on loving this body and showing up just as I am. Double tap if you believe confidence is hard but it's worth pursuing. 🙌🏻

"Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin." -Mother Teresa What if we put our worries aside and only thought about what we could do in this very moment to reach full potential? Isn't it crazy that our "to-dos" are what hold us back. What is one thing you're hoping to accomplish today? 📷 of the beautiful Hannah Walters who just went live on the blog. Check it out. FRI-NALLY am I right? I just love Fridays. This time of year they remind me of football games and hanging with friends. They also promise sleeping in on Saturday and waking up on a crisp cool morning, coffee in hand ready to enjoy a day off. What do you like to do on your Friday night? 📷of the beautiful @morganlemieux25

📷 Pro-tip: Before your session, pack a bag with snacks, water and any small objects (like toys or lollipops) that might help me get their attention when it’s time for them to look at the camera. If they are old enough to understand you, it’s a good idea to prepare them for what’s to come before the session starts. Explain how much the photos mean to you so they know to be on their best behavior. A lot of families discuss and pick something fun in advance as a treat after the session if they’re good listeners, like an ice cream cone🍦, for example. It also helps if their bellies are full and they’ve has some good rest beforehand. Once you prepare them physically and mentally, then feel free to give them (and you!) grace! They’re little, and I know that some days don’t always go as planned. I’ve seen it all and will make sure to get you great photos, regardless of their moods. My goal is to make this as fun and stress-free as it possibly can be for you and your family!⠀ ⠀ For more tips like this one, download my FREE Portrait Session Style Guide for a stress free experience. It was a cold winter evening. We were celebrating 4 years of being together. We walked to this bridge with only the moon and twinkling lights to guide us. As we stopped in this very spot, He handed me a card. My eyes skipped everything printed and I read his handwriting that said, "Will you marry me?" 7 months later we said "I do" and Sept 2, we celebrate our 11th anniversary. This photo explains our relationship pretty well. I'd say that so far it's been the best one yet. Here's to many more babe! 📷 by the incredible @katiecookphotography relive our wedding day with us by visiting my story.

Dear time, we often feel that there is never enough of you. I'm sorry if I've misused you. Often enough I fill you with things that are meaningless, take on things that I shouldn't and complain that it's your fault. Sincerely, overworked⠀ ⠀ Do you ever feel like this? I find it interesting that when I try to make time in my life it's when I'm most challenged. Things try to fill the voids I work so hard to achieve. Well I'm here to say, no! 🙅🏼 I want more meaning in life with the things I do. More time with the family, more time serving and more time telling beautiful stories. Double tap if you agree. I remember 10 years ago when I was pregnant with our son thinking about how I was going to be a certain kind of parent and never do this or never do that. Well then reality sets in and with a second kid it changes even more. What was/is one thing you swore you wouldn't do as a parent but you find yourself doing it anyway? 👶🏻 Photo of my sweet friend Michelle and one of her boys. Attention: ⚠️ Im giving away my secret. Did you know that I'm a sucker for a good love story? It's images like this that speak to me. When you look at this do you see three people or two? What I mean is do you notice the photographer asking them to hold this pose just a little bit longer? I'm not a huge fan of posing (to be honest it's one of the hardest parts of my job. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Shhh don't tell) but I want more actual moments that share a story of who they are. I want you to feel how they are feeling. Not pretend to be someone else and hold a hand a certain way because of a cool thing I saw. Thanks to @marymarantz for reminding me of the things I love to photograph most. Double tap if you agree! 🙌🏻 Photo by #karahanesphotography of Parents hiding from their teenagers who were less than thrilled to see mom and dad kissing.
