The glorification of "being busy" or working the longest hours. Have you ever fallen into that trap? ⠀ ⠀ It's easy to focus on how many hours we're putting in instead of the quality of work we are producing. And yet, I don't know about you, but I don't live to work. I work so I can enjoy the life my husband and I have created. ⠀ ⠀ Success to me isn't being the person who works the longest hours or who has to sacrifice the most. My version of success is more about doing work I enjoy, being able to enjoy time with the ones I love, and creating financial stability. ⠀ ⠀ And yet, it's good to remember that we all have different definitions of success and that is okay. We just need to make sure we are actually accomplishing quality work in the hours we put in! 😉 ⠀ ⠀ Have you ever fallen into the trap of focusing on the amount of time you're logging instead of the quality? If today is a preview of how this week is going to go, it's going to be a bit chaotic. With a task list longer than I've had in a long time, I am going to be strapped to my desk, training Bentley how to refill my coffee cup, and hoping the days don't speed by! ☕️☕️☕️ This week I am writing several pages of website content, blog posts for four different companies, and starting a new project. Feel free to send all of your writing mojo my way. 😉 What are you working on this week? Comment below! #mondaymotivation #makewavesmonday #mondayvibes #mondaymornings

This is our little (growing) family. ❤️⠀ ⠀ Hi! Just in case you're new around here - I'm Amanda Washburn, the owner of Rough Draft Solutions. I am a writer, communication enthusiast, and small business supporter. ⠀ ⠀ My friends know me as a coffee addict, travel lover, and a recovering control freak. 😏😉 Oh, and as you may be able to tell, I'm going to be a mom!⠀ ⠀ As a kid, I always wondered how my life would turn out. I worried if I would ever find my own path, find the right guy, and couldn't imagine my dream of being a mom ever coming true. No, life isn't perfect, and there have been a lot of ups and downs along the way, but I am thankful for this current season of life. ⠀ ⠀ For today's #fridayintroductions, I'd love to get to know you! What are you known for amongst your friends? Or, what is your favorite part of the phase of life you're in? Comment below!

Hiring interns as a small business owner - a good idea or no? >>LINK IN BIO<< After hiring and working with five different interns, I can openly say that adding interns to my team has been one of the best decisions I have made as a business owner. And yet, I hear a lot of people complain about disengaged interns or internships that create more work than expected. Over the last three years, I have learned a lot about what works and what doesn't when it comes to internships. Keep in mind, you don't need to have a huge business or a ton of clients to have an intern. My interns have helped me strengthen the quality of the work I produce, have pushed me forward as a business owner, and continually add a level of creativity to the work we do. Not to mention, they have helped me learn how to delegate! In today's blog post, I am digging deep into how to create an internship that boosts your business. Check it out and take a step closer to hiring a stellar intern! I'm curious, have you hired an intern yet? What is holding you back? Comment below!

Psst. When was the last time you updated your website? ⠀ ⠀ To some, this tip may seem like a no-brainer, but I heard about a business just yesterday that hasn't updated their website in over 10 years. 😳 Yikes. ⠀ ⠀ While I am sure that you are not in that leaky of a boat, you may have ignored your site for awhile. Be honest - when was the last time you read through the content on your website? Or when did you last swap out pictures? If it's been more than 6-12 months, it's time for a change.⠀ ⠀ I totally get it - running a business isn't easy and your time is probably occupied by doing billable work. But don't forget - your website is the face of your business and part of the reason you have clients. ⠀ ⠀ If you're like me, your business and services are constantly evolving. Make sure your site reflects that. ⠀ ⠀ I'm curious, how do you keep your website updated? What areas are the hardest for you to refresh? Comment below! ⠀ ⠀ #tiptuesday #tuesdaytip #tipoftheday #websitetips

So I have discovered something new - searching for the perfect baby name makes you think about names differently. (And no, this is not really business related, although you should think long and hard about your business name!) ⠀ ⠀ I've never said my last name (Washburn) aloud so much. ;) I mean, you have to make sure the first, middle, and last name all sound good together, right?!⠀ ⠀ As I scour the internet for what we will call our baby for the rest of its life, I am realizing that there is a wide variety of ways to approach selecting a name. Some people just find a name that sounds nice together. Others put a lot of weight on the meaning of the name. And others focus on passing down family names or honoring places that mean a lot to them. ⠀ ⠀ I am curious about the story behind your name or if you have kids, how you attempted to find the best name for them. Give me all of your secrets! Comment below! ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #fridayintroductions #fridayfeeling #fridayflow

Genius. Power. Magic. ⠀ ⠀ What idea is within you that makes your heart race just a tiny bit? So often we put our dreams on hold - telling ourselves it isn't the time or that it isn't realistic. ⠀ ⠀ But let me tell you, over four years ago when I was miserable in my current job and spent my time dreaming about this business, I knew there had to be more to my career. After a fair amount of wishing and a lot of planning, I eventually took the bold leap and started Rough Draft Solutions. There hasn't been a single day that I regretted it. ⠀ ⠀ The beauty of being a small business owner is that we can make our businesses what we want them to be. And once we do, it is our job to give our clients our best and to share our stories. So friends, be bold. Pursue that dream you've been keeping hidden and just make it happen. You seriously can do it. ⠀ ⠀ How did you get started? What pushed you to take the leap and pursue your dream? Comment below! ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #thursdaythoughts #thoughtoftheday #thoughtfulthursday

Stress. A horrible six-letter word. ⠀ ⠀ I used to let stress rule my life. I would become overrun and would perpetually affirm to myself that I had so much going on, I was too busy, and that I couldn't possibly get it all done. 😏⠀ ⠀ While I hate the feeling of stress, I was constantly subscribing to it because of the way I was choosing to handle my responsibilities. ⠀ ⠀ But isn't it true that we are the only ones who can truly create or allow stress in our lives? Sure, we are all subject to varying circumstances, but we can choose how we handle them. ⠀ ⠀ Here are a few things that have helped me limit and manage the stressors in my life. ⠀ ⠀ ➕Follow a consistent routine - I try to get up and go to bed at the same time and work smarter (write in the morning, plan in the afternoon)⠀ ⠀ ➕Say no to projects that I won't enjoy or don't fit my workload⠀ ⠀ ➕Unplug from work in the evenings and on the weekends⠀ ⠀ ➕Don't respond to emails immediately⠀ ⠀ ➕Maintain a consistent to-do list and review it regularly ⠀ ⠀ ➕Don't allow someone's lack of planning to create an emergency for me ⠀ ⠀ I am curious - how do you feel about stress? What are some things you do to prevent or relieve stress in your life? Comment below! ⠀ ⠀ #TipTuesday
